How can I machine quilt a quilt without wrinkles?
I decided not binding, so I went ahead and sewed the edges of the quilt and turned along the right side out. Then I will machine quilt, but it keeps wrinkles, will not lay flat, etc. Does anyone have a solution? Help!
I bet you are using poly batting. I can not maching with poly batting quilt without serious pucker problems. I recommend cotton batting with cotton fabrics. Cotton holds onto cotton and not slide around. I use only cotton or wool batting. A good resource would Maching Heirloom Quilting by Harriet Hargrave. It is a book who has been out a while and will probably be in your local library. It has good information on make sure your tension is correct, the different types batting, etc. if you are free movement of quilting, be sure to have a good foot to move freely, but if you're doing straight lines it is best to use a foot to foot. What probably would to try to save the quilt without having to dismantle it would get some spray spray. For those who have not heard of it, is a temporary adhesive that washes out, but keeps the layers in place while you quilt. A little goes a long way. (Spray too much and get in boogars needle.) Can be difficult to draw a blanket spray and when the layers are not joined by what would be a struggle for you to spray spray. Otherwise, have a thread of age and a large needle and spray heavily.
